How does Web Hosting work?
Websites are built using many types of programming codes, which is inserted into pages along with images, databases, scripts and more. After your website is finished, it needs to be accessible for everyone to see it. This is where Web Hosting comes in.
Web Hosting is space on a server located in our one of our datacentres, which are connected to every other datacentre in the world. The web server’s job is to provide your website files to anyone who requests them - usually using a internet browser program, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Chrome.
The web server gets a request and then sends the website to the person who requested it. It does this 24/7, meaning that you get a degree of availability and uptime that other computers are not able to provide. This is one of the reasons why it is not economical or practical to use a home computer for website hosting.
Our infrastructure uses a principle called cloud computing for greater performance and reliability. The machines are linked together in a way that distributes memory and resources, meaning that even if one of them malfunctions or goes offline temporarily, its work continues uninterrupted, meaning your services remain online.
One major advantage of our Web Hosting solutions is the extensive usage of SSD memory in our server arrays. SSD, or Solid State Drives, is the latest-generation type of computer memory. Instead of storing information on a rotating disk (like older-model hard drives), this memory is in a drive that stores information magnetically in a non-spinning model. Because there is no laser that searches for the information on the disk, SSD memory loads up to 300% faster than traditional hard disks.

Can I upgrade my plan anytime?
Yes. If your website has the potential to grow but doesn’t yet have large amounts of traffic and files, it would be better to start with one of our smaller hosting plans and upgrade it only as more resources become necessary. Our plans give you the flexibility to grow and continue to develop your sites as much as you need to.
You can request the upgrades you need at any time within your Account Manager in just a few clicks and then you will have more hosting resources available for your site. This process does not require you to transfer files - everything is done automatically. Simply activate the upgrade and your account will be expanded according to your choice.
How many customers do you have on each server?
All of our hosting services are shared Web Hosting, meaning that each server hosts a number of sites for different users, sharing the resources. Web servers are so powerful they can hold up to 2000 websites, allowing us to deliver optimal value without affecting performance.
Unlike certain other providers, we do not load up or over subscribe our machines until they cannot handle any more services. Our maximum capacity, both in terms of hard drive and memory usage, tops out at 80%. This means that, no matter what is happening, your website can handle large spikes in traffic without losing performance or availability.
This limit in usage of resources rather than number of customers means that we can maintain the responsiveness of our infrastructure and keep your website and services running smoothly and quickly. It is very carefully planned to mean that we do not have large numbers of resource-hungry websites, applications and scripts running on the same servers. Each machine is only used to a reasonable capacity.
Do you offer support for scripts installed through cPanel?
We do not provide support for third-party scripts. This is because our support staff are highly trained in using our hosting system and it is not possible to train them in every script that anyone uploads through their cPanel Web Hosting manager. Learning programming and scripting languages is a long and difficult job, and there is a large variety of languages that our system supports. Learning all of them can take years.
However, our support are always happy to do whatever they can to help you by finding articles and other content to help you out if you need it. It is better, though, to ask for support directly from the code’s source. Different scripting languages have active support communities, and if you are using a piece of proprietary code, then the developer will be more familiar with it and able to give you answers to your issues.
Do you keep a backup of my website?
Yes. We keep backups for internal reasons, however, we recommend to clients to keep their own backups. It is not feasible to offer assurance of data backup for Web Hosting and advise that you should do this independently and ensure that your hosting account’s content - site files, scripts and applications - are all backed up correctly.
We urge all our customers to keep regular backups. If your site is static or does not see much traffic, then these can happen weekly, but for more traffic-heavy sites that may be updated often, daily backups are recommended. Our hosting management system, cPanel, has a simple backup feature that you can use to download a complete copy of your site, databases and any other contents of your hosting account. Please see this article for a detailed set of instructions on how you can perform these backups independently.
If you are interested in automating your backups, we recommend this article, which explains in detail how to do it.
Do you offer a money-back guarantee?
Yes. If, at any time and for any reason within the first 60 days of using our hosting service, you want your money back, you get a full refund of the remaining time. You don’t have to pay for anything that you haven’t used or don’t want to continue using. If you decide to use this guarantee, your account will be credited for the amount of the refund.
Please note that this guarantee does not apply to domain names. These must be bought from the registries, which do not provide refunds on domains that have already been registered. It does apply to all of our other services.
Why is Australian Web Hosting important?
The physical location of a host is something that too many people do not pay attention to - then they face suboptimal performance. Having an Australian Web Hosting solution is one more way that you can maximise your website’s performance, and we are here to offer that solution to our customers.
We offer the following locations for Web Hosting in Australia:
These datacentre locations ensure that the data you transfer does not have to travel a long distance and does not depend on international infrastructure, which can experience issues with speed and performance. The fact remains that data must travel physically as electrical impulses, meaning that the shorter a distance it has to travel, the less time it takes.
Even though we are used to thinking of electronic communications as instant, the physical location of the computers that support your website and email plays an important role in ensuring proper performance. When fractions of a second can make the difference between satisfied customers and people who immediately close their browser windows, you want to make sure that you’re getting every advantage from your hosting that you can.
