How to Access the File Manager

Web Hosting is not just setting up Name Server and DNS to make your website available online. Web Hosting also includes creating and uploading files like pictures, videos, documents to your File Manager. These files will make up your website page content. In this guide, you’ll learn what is the File Manager, what are the features and how it works, and how to access it via your Hosting Manager.

What is the File Manager

File Manager is a program that offers a user-friendly display for users to manage web files and folders. This feature uses a hierarchical or tree structure type of directory and can be found in the control panel of your Hosting Manager.

Aside from creating, updating, deleting, or uploading files. These are some additional functions you can manage in your File Manager. And give you a better insight into how the File Manager works and its features.

Additional Functions

Upload Will enable you to upload individual files such as text or images
Download Will enable you to download files and save them in your local hard drive
Copy Will enable you to copy files and paste them in another location
Move Will enable you to move files and folders from one location to another
Rename Will enable you to rename files or folders
Delete Will enable you to delete files or folders
Edit Code Will enable you to open a selected file in a code editor
Edit HTML Will enable you to open a selected file in an HTML editor
Extract Compressed Files

Will enable you to extract files and folders from compressed or zipped file

Compress Files or Folders

Will enable you to compress selected files or folders to a single compressed or zipped file

Password Protect

Will enable you to restrict access to a folder by setting a username and password

How it Works and Features

In order to understand your File Manager better, below are some of its basic features:

1. Task Bar

This is where you can perform basic tasks like create a new folder, delete a file, or edit a file.

2. Current Location

This tells you where you are currently located. You can also specify a path here to navigate to somewhere else.

3. File Tree

This is also for navigation. However, it shows you a visual representation of how your files are structurally stored.

4. Current Folder Contents

This displays what are the contents of the currently opened folder.

How To Access the File Manager

Once you have Sign Up for a Hosting account, follow the steps below to access your File Manager.

Step 1. Log in to your cPanel.

Step 2. Scroll to the Files tab, then click the File Manager option.

Step 3. Once the File Manager loads, all of the files and folders in your webspace will be displayed.
