Setup a new FTP Account

What is FTP?

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol, which is a set of standardised rules that enables you to manage website files from your Hosting Manager. It is a protocol that involves two programs (a client and a server) in order to process and implement requests over a network such as the internet.

How to set up a new FTP account

If you have your domain and web hosting with Crazy Domains, then by default, you should already have an accessible FTP account. However, you can still add or set up a new FTP account.

To know how to do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on My Account at the top of the page.
  2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your username and password, and click Log In.
  4. On the Home page, click the word Files or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
  5. Click the FTP Accounts icon, which is next to the Directory Privacy icon.
  6. On the next page, under Add FTP Account, fill out the following fields:
    Log In This is the username for your FTP account.
    Password This is the key that will enable you to access your FTP account.

    It is recommended that you use uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols to create a strong password. The system will tell you how weak or strong your password is when you type it in the appropriate fields.

    If you find it difficult to make a strong enough password for your email, you can let the system create one for you.

    Click the Password Generator button. In the pop-up box, copy the generated password and paste that in the Password. fields.

    You can also choose to check I have copied this password in a safe place. Then, click Use Password. This will automatically copy and paste the generated password in the Password fields.

    Important Note: Make sure you have actually saved the generated password in a safe and easy to recall place.

    Directory This is the path where your FTP account can be accessed.
    Quota This is the amount of space you may use for your FTP account.
  7. Click Create FTP Account.

Important Note: Please take note that any changes you make may take around 10 minutes to take effect.

Congratulations, you have now set up a new FTP account.

How to configure your FTP account

Other configuration settings you can do in FTP Accounts are the following:


  1. Change Password

    If you want to change the password to your FTP account, follow the steps below:

    1. Click on My Account at the top of the page.
    2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
    3. Enter your username and password, and click Log In.
    4. On the Home page, click the word Files or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
    5. Click the FTP Accounts icon, which is next to the Directory Privacy icon.
    6. On the next page, in the table under FTP Accounts, select the FTP account you want to change the password of.
      Then, click the gear or Settings icon, or the downward arrow next to it.
    7. Click Change Password.
    8. Type in your new password in the respective fields. Make sure to create a strong password. The Strength meter will tell you if your password is weak or strong.
      If you find it difficult to make a strong enough password for your email, you can let the system create one for you.
      To do this, follow the steps below:

      1. Click the Password Generator button, next to the Strength meter.
      2. In the pop-up box, copy the generated password and paste that in the Password fields.
      You can also choose to check I have copied this password in a safe place. Then, click Use Password. This will automatically copy and paste the generated password in the Password fields.

      Important Note: Make sure you have actually saved the generated password in a safe and easy to recall place.

    9. Click Change Password to save your updates.

  2. Change Quota

    If you want to change the space quota, follow the steps below:

    1. Click on My Account at the top of the page.
    2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
    3. Enter your username and password, and click Log In.
    4. On the Home page, click the word Files or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
    5. Click the FTP Accounts icon, which is next to the Directory Privacy icon.
    6. On the next page, in the table under FTP Accounts, select the FTP account you want to modify.
      Then, click the gear or Settings icon, or the downward arrow next to it.
    7. Click Change Quota.
      If you don't want to set a limit, choose Unlimited.
    8. Click Change Quota to confirm.
