I lost the MySQL database user/password

Your MySQL databases can only be accessed by users you have granted with the permission to do so. Users are assigned a user name and password in order to access MySQL databases.

If a user forgets his/her MySQL database user name, this information can be checked in the Hosting Manager.

How to check your MySQL Database User name

If you simply want to check the name of a MySQL database privileged user, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on My Account at the top of the page.
  2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your username and password, and click Log In.
  4. On the Home page, click the word Databases or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
  5. Next, click the MySQL Databases button, which is next to phpMyAdmin icon.
  6. On the next page, under Current Databases, you will see the users granted permission to access your databases under the Privileged Users column.

What you can do if you forgot your MySQL Database User password?

If it is the corresponding password to a privileged user that is lost, you can either change the password of the current privileged user, or create a new user with a new password.

Change Password

If you want to change the password of a current privileged user, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on My Account at the top of the page.
  2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your username and password, and click Log In.
  4. On the Home page, click the word Databases or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
  5. Next, click the MySQL Databases button, which is next to phpMyAdmin icon.
  6. On the next page, under Current Users, select the username you want to change the password of, and then click the Change Password button to the right.
  7. Under Set MySQL User Password, fill out the Password fields:
  8. Password This will serve as your new key that will enable you to access your MySQL database. The system will tell you how weak or strong your new password is when you type it in the appropriate fields.

    If you find it difficult to make a strong enough new password for your email, you can let the system create one for you.

    Click the Password Generator button. In the pop-up box, copy the generated password and paste that in the Password fields.

    You can also choose to check I have copied this password in a safe place. Then, click Use Password. This will automatically copy and paste the generated password in the Password fields.

    Important Note: Make sure you have actually saved the generated password in a safe and easy to recall place.

    Password (Again) This is only for confirmation and should be the same as the new Password you typed above.
  9. Click Change Password.
    After a few seconds, a pop-up box will appear on your screen with the following notification:
  10. Success
    You have successfully set this user’s password.
  11. Click OK to go back to the MySQL Databases main page.

Create a New User

If you want to change the name of a privileged user, just go to Current Users, find the user name you want to modify, and click the Rename button to the right. In the pop-up box, type in the new name you want replace the old one. Click Proceed to confirm.

Add User to your MySQL Database

If you want to remove a privileged user’s access to a particular database, just go to Current Databases, locate the privileged user’s name, and click the trash bin icon next to it. Next, click Revoke User Privileges from Database to confirm.

Note: When modifying privileges, make sure you select the right database and privileged user name. Users may have access to more than one database.
