How to restore your Website backup files

In case your website gets infected with a virus, is hacked, or corrupted for some reason, you have the option to restore a previous copy of your website. This is why it is important that you regularly create working backup files of your site.

The partial backup files you can create and download within Hosting Manager are:

  • Home Directory
  • MySQL Databases
  • Email Forwarders
  • Email Filters

How to restore your Website backup files

If you need to restore specific sections of your website, you can perform this inside the Hosting Manager.

Restoring specific website files is a task that can be implemented using either the Backup or the Backup Wizard feature.

Important Note: You need to have recent working backup files of your website in order to restore specific sections of it.

Once you have the backup files of your website, you will now be able to restore specific sections of it. Below are further instructions on how you can restore your website files using the Backup and Backup Wizard in your control panel.

Using Backup

To restore your website files using the Backup feature in Hosting Manager, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on My Account at the top of the page.
  2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your username and password, and click Log In.
  4. On the Home page, click the word Files or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
  5. Click the Backup icon, which is next to the Backup Wizard icon.
  6. Next page, under Partial Backups, there are upload boxes on the right that has the label Choose File. Under the partial backup label you want to upload, click Choose File.
  7. In the pop-up box, locate and select from within your computer the apt partial backup file you want to upload. You can also simply drag the correct partial backup file to its respective box.
    Example: If you want to restore your site’s Home Directory to a previous setting or copy, click Choose File under the Restore a Home Directory Backup heading or simply drag your Home Directory backup (.tar.gz) file to it.
  8. Click Upload.

This will take a few minutes, depending on the size of the file.
In the next screen, you will get a notification that the website file/s you uploaded have been restored.

Using Backup Wizard

For a step-by-step instruction to restore partial backups of your website files, you can use Backup Wizard.
To do this, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on My Account at the top of the page.
  2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your username and password, and click Log In.
  4. On the Home page, click the word Files or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
  5. Click the Backup Wizard icon, which is next to the Backup icon.
  6. On the next page, click Restore.
  7. Next, you will get three backup file types to choose from.

    • Home Directory
    • MySQL Databases
    • Email Forwarders & Filters

    Click the one you want to restore.
  8. Next page, you will get a Choose File box. Click this. In the pop-up box, locate and select from within your computer the apt partial backup file you want to upload. You can also simply drag the correct partial backup file to the Choose File box.
  9. Click Upload.

This will take a few minutes, depending on the size of the file.
In the next screen, you will get a notification that the website file/s you uploaded have been restored.
