How to perform a full backup of your Web Hosting

Regularly creating backup copies of your website files is highly recommended because it will help you preserve important web data when you are updating or revamping your site. It can also help you keep complete working copies of your websites for when you’re preparing to transfer your account to another hosting server.

The following steps to download a full backup of your Web Hosting account includes all of the following files:

  • Web files
  • Databases
  • Forwarders
  • Filters

Note: The full backup copy you get from following this guide, however, does NOT include copies of your email messages.

To create a Full Backup file, follow the steps below:

  1. Click Sign Up / Log In at the top of this page.
  2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your username and password, and click Log In.
  4. On the Home page, click the word Files or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
  5. Click the Backup icon, which is next to the Backup Wizard icon.
  6. On the next page, under Full Backup, click Download a Full Website Backup.
  7. Next screen, under Generate a Full Backup, fill out the following fields:
Backup Destination This is the space in your website that the backup file will be stored in.
Email Address This is the email address the system will send its notification to about the backup file you requested.
Check the Do not send email notification of backup completion if you don’t want the system to email you once the backup you requested has been sent to its destination.
  8. Click Generate Backup.

In a few minutes, the system will be finished creating and storing your backup file.

If you left the Do not send email notification of backup completion. unchecked, you will get the following message in the next page:

Once the full backup of your account has been completed, you will receive an email at the address you specified, “(your email address)”.

You will also get an email notification with the following subject:

[yourdomain.com] A full backup of the account “username” with the primary domain “yourdomain.com” has completed.

However, if you checked the Do not send email notification of backup completion., you will get the following message in the next page:

Per your request, no notification will be sent upon backup completion.

You can also download a copy of the Full Website Backup by following the steps below:

  1. Inside the Hosting Manager, click the word Files or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right side.
  2. Click the Backup icon, which is next to the Backup Wizard icon.
  3. On the next page, under Full Backup, click Download a Full Website Backup.
  4. Next screen, under Backups Available for Download, you will see the full website backup you created previously.
If you have generated full backups before, you will see a list here.
Choose the version you want and click it.

The system will automatically download the full backup version you clicked.

Note: The Full Backup file will have the .tar.gz file extension.
To find the downloaded file, go to your computer's Downloads folder.

Congratulations, you now know how to create a full backup copy of your Web Hosting.
