Understanding Website Builder Domains

A Domain Name is the web address of your site. This is the website address that Visitors use to locate your site on the Internet. With Website Builder, you have the option to publish your site to your Website Builder Domain or use a Subdomain of sitebeat.crazydomains.com for free, e.g. "mysite.sitebeat.crazydomains.com".

What Is a Website Builder Domain

Website Builder Domain is the Domain Name you connected to Website Builder upon purchase.

Your Website Builder registration is packaged with a Domain Name of your choice. Whether you connected an existing Domain Name to Website Builder upon purchase, or chose to register a new Domain Name along with Website Builder, the system automatically recognises this as the web address that you can use for publishing your Website Builder website.

What Is a Free Subdomain

Website Builder also has a free configurable sitebeat.crazydomains.com Subdomain that never expires. You can publish your site using this Subdomain, especially if you're still testing out your site.

To configure your Free Subdomain, follow the instructions below:

  2. You will now be routed to your Website Builder Dashboard.
  3. Hover your mouse pointer over the project/website that you would like to customise and click EDIT.
  4. Click Settings from the left-side menu, then click Domains.
  5. Click on the random name under Free.
  6. Under Site Address, replace the random name with a name that you would like to use for your website.
This will be added before the .sitebeat.crazydomains.com Subdomain, e.g. mysite.sitebeat.crazydomains.com
  7. Click the Rename button to save.

Congratulations! You just customised your free Website Builder Subdomain.

Publishing Your Website

The Publish option can be found in (3) three different places, making it quick for you to publish your website anytime. You can do this while you're on the Website Builder Dashboard's Sites page, and while on Editor or Preview mode:

  • While on your Website Builder Dashboard's Sites page, you can hover your mouse pointer over a project, click the [...] Ellipsis Icon, and click Publish.
  • Or, click Edit to proceed with Editor mode, and click the Publish button at the top-right corner of the page.
  • Or, click Preview from the top-right corner of the Website Builder Editor to proceed with Preview mode first, and click the Publish button at the bottom-right corner of the page.

A pop-up box will appear where you can choose between Use a Subdomain of... or Website Builder Domain and then, click Publish again.

The published website will have a Published Icon showing on the project if you view it on your Website Builder Dashboard's Sites page.

While you are able to work on a maximum of (3) three projects, you can only publish (1) one website live.

Note: If you already have (1) one project or website published live and you try to publish another website, you will get a Limit Reached error. Click on the [x] Icon at the top-right corner of the page to go back. You will need to Unpublish (1) one project to be able to publish another.

To Unpublish a website, go to your Website Builder Dashboard's Sites page and hover your mouse pointer over the published website, then click the [...] Ellipsis Icon and select Unpublish.

Congratulations! You just published your website to a Domain or Subdomain.

Why Can't I Publish to My Website Builder Domain?

If you can't select Website Builder Domain when trying to publish a website, this is because it is currently assigned as a Primary Domain in one of your other projects. This is usually the project that you recently published live.

To fix this, you need to open that project and disconnect the Domain using the steps below:

  1. Log In to Website Builder.
  2. You will now be routed to your Website Builder Dashboard.
  3. Hover your mouse pointer over the project/website that is using your desired website address as Primary and click EDIT.
  4. Click Settings from the left-side menu, then click Domains.
  5. Click the Domain Name under Website Builder Domains.
  6. Click on the Disconnect Domain button.

You've now successfully disconnected the Domain Name and you can now publish a different project to your Website Builder Domain.

Congratulations! You've just learned all about Domain Names in Website Builder.
