How To Back Up My Files on Windows VPS
You cannot afford to lose data, especially when you’re running a business. This is why you need to make sure your files are constantly backed up and secured.
Your Windows VPS files can be backed up using any 3rd party solution you prefer. However, we do recommend using Windows backup.
To use Windows backup, it should first be installed in advance through your Server Manager.
Installing Windows Backup
Install Windows backup by following the instructions below:
- Open the Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) function on your computer.
Click on the Start button, type mstsc in the search box, and press Enter. The RDP function will appear. - Enter your VPS IP address, then click Connect.
- Enter your username and password then click OK.
- Click on the Start button within the RDP window.
- Search for Server Manager and open it.
- Click Manage from the top-right menu.
- Select Add Roles and Features.
- Click on Features from the left-side menu.
- Select Windows Server Backup and click Next.
Note: You can also install Windows backup via Powershell using the script: "install-windowsfeature windows-server-backup"
Backing Up with Windows Backup
You can back up your files with Windows Backup via RDP by following the instructions below:
- Open the Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) function on your computer.
Click on the Start button, type mstsc in the search box, and press Enter. The RDP function will appear. - Enter your VPS IP address, then click Connect.
- Enter your username and password then click OK.
- Click on the Start button within the RDP window.
- Type the keyword backup in the search box.
- Click on the Backup and Restore function to set up a backup schedule for your files.
Congratulations! You have just backed up your files on Windows VPS.
