How Do I Point a Domain Name to My Windows Hosting

In this article, you’ll learn how to point a domain name to a host by changing the domain’s nameservers. This way, you can move your website to another hosting provider while still keeping the old domain name.

What is a Domain Name

A Domain Name is the unique address of a website. This is the string of letters and/or numbers that you put in the address bar of an internet browser when you want to visit a website. For example: mydomain.com

Now that we’ve outlined the brief meaning of a domain name, we’ll get started on what you need to configure to point it to our Windows Hosting. Continue reading this guide and follow the steps below.

Pointing Your Main Domain Name to Your Windows Hosting

The Domain Name you directly connected to your Windows Hosting upon purchase is called the main domain.

If your main domain is registered with Crazy Domains, it is automatically connected to your Windows Hosting. Nevertheless, it is still recommended that you make sure your Name Servers are updated to the records specified below:

  • ns1.syrahost.com
  • ns2.syrahost.com

If your main domain is registered with another provider but your Windows Hosting is with Crazy Domains, you need to connect your domain to your hosting.

To connect your domain to your Crazy Domains hosting, log in to your domain registrar’s account manager, select the Domain Name you want to connect to your hosting, and change its Name Servers to the same records mentioned above.

If you have any difficulties, contact your provider and give them the Name Servers above to set up on your domain. If you have further problems, you may also transfer your domain to us.

NOTE: After setting the Name Servers, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes or updates to successfully take effect.

How To Add Another Domain Name to Your Windows Hosting

How To Point a Domain Name to My Windows Hosting Using Premium DNS

If you have Crazy Domains Premium DNS attached to the domain name and you wish to point it to your Crazy Domains Windows Hosting, you will need to make sure that your Name Servers are updated to the following:

  • ns1.dnspackage.com
  • ns2.dnspackage.com

If your domain is registered with another provider while your Premium DNS and Windows Hosting products are with Crazy Domains, you need to connect your domain to your Premium DNS first.

To connect your domain to your Crazy Domains Premium DNS service, log in to your domain registrar’s account manager, select the Domain Name you wish to manage, and change its Name Servers to the same records mentioned above.

Once the Name Servers have been set up correctly, you will need to point your domain name's A records to your Windows Hosting IP address. Follow the instructions below to obtain your hosting IP address:

  1. Click Sign Up / Log In at the top of this page.
  2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your hosting username and password, then click Log In.
  4. Click Websites & Domains from the left-side menu.
  5. Look for the Domain Name you wish to manage and copy the IP address under that domain.

Now that you have your hosting IP address, create or update your domains A records for both mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com so that they both point to your hosting's IP address.

IMPORTANT: After setting the Name Servers and A records, it can take up to 24 hours for the changes or updates to successfully take effect.
