New Outlook Version Cannot Connect to Titan Email
This article explains why Titan Email may fail to connect to the new version of Microsoft 365 Outlook on Windows or macOS and provides troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue or identify available workarounds.
Symptom or issue
You may experience one or more of the following issues when adding a Titan Email account to the new Microsoft Outlook desktop application on Windows or macOS:
- The account cannot be added to Outlook.
- Outlook displays a Connecting message indefinitely.
- Authentication fails even though the email address and password are correct.
- Outlook repeatedly prompts for the account password.
- The account is added successfully but does not send or receive emails.
In many cases, the same email account continues to work in Titan Webmail or other email applications.
Possible cause
The new Microsoft 365 Outlook uses a different architecture for IMAP accounts than classic Outlook. Instead of connecting directly to the mail server in all scenarios, Outlook synchronizes many third-party email accounts through Microsoft's cloud services.
This behavior may result in compatibility issues with some IMAP providers, including Titan Email, causing connection or authentication failures.
The issue may also occur if:
- Third-party email client access for Titan is disabled.
- Incorrect incoming or outgoing mail server settings are configured.
- Cached credentials or authentication tokens interfere with the connection process.
Solution
Complete the following checks to troubleshoot the issue.
1. Verify the email account credentials
Confirm that you can successfully sign in to Titan Webmail using the same email address and password.
If you cannot access Titan webmail, reset the mailbox password before attempting to connect the account to Outlook again.
2. Verify that third-party email client access is enabled
Ensure that the Titan mailbox allows access from external email clients that use IMAP and SMTP.
To learn how to enable Third-Party email access, read Enable Third-Party Email Access for Titan.
3. Verify the mail server settings
If Outlook allows manual configuration, confirm that the correct Titan mail server settings are being used. Read Getting Started With Titan Email to know the email server settings.
4. Remove and re-add the account
If the account was previously configured:
- Remove the account from Outlook.
- Close Outlook completely.
- Reopen Outlook.
- Add the email account again using the correct email credentials server settings.
5. Workaround
If the issue persists after completing the troubleshooting steps, use one of the following alternatives:
- Use Titan Webmail to access your email.
- Use another email client that supports standard IMAP connections.
- If available, use classic Outlook instead of the new Outlook application, as some users report more reliable connectivity with Titan Email using the classic desktop client.
Additional information
Current reports from Titan email users from various providers indicate that compatibility issues may exist between Titan Email and the new Microsoft Outlook desktop application on both Windows and macOS. If your account works in Webmail but not in the new Outlook, the issue may be related to the application's handling of third-party IMAP accounts rather than the mailbox itself.
